NEW YORK CITY COUNCIL MEMBER
CARLOS MENCHACA | 38th District

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope that you enjoyed your Thanksgiving weekend.

I want to remind you about today's meeting and community conversation on the proposed plan for the redevelopment of the Sunset Park Library. The proposal consists of a new and larger library and roughly 50 units of housing, all of which would be affordable and accessible to our community.

For my perspective on this project, I've included an open letter to the community here:

The Brooklyn Public Library (BPL), The Fifth Avenue Committee (FAC) and Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NHN) have been working hard to address of the community's feedback over the last several weeks. Those revised plans will be available to everyone at tomorrow’s meeting. You can also find an FAQ sheet they have prepared here: https://gallery.mailchimp.com/4779bf68ead56122648dff78d/files/Sunset_Park_Library_Expansion_FAQs_.pdf

Also, below is a list of upcoming events in our community. The Arab American Association of New York’s (AAANY) town hall meeting will help answer some questions about the recent Executive Order (E.O.) by President Obama. AAANY will also be able to briefly address how community organizations are preparing for the implementation of the E.O. The December 12th briefing by NYCHA will update residents of the Red Hook Houses on the current status of the Senior Center renovation, and will give residents the opportunity to get updates on the status of other Sandy-related repairs. Finally, on December 18th, my office will host the first of several orientations for budget delegates in our Participatory Budgeting process. Please share these dates and events widely.

I hope to see you tomorrow to continue the conversation about how we creatively address the most pressing issues in our community.

Always thankful,

Carlos Menchaca
