Dear
Friends & Neighbors:
Please join me, this Monday, as we kick off
Participatory Budgeting in District 38! This initiative will give the community
the unique opportunity to drive the decision-making process for how we spend
$2 million dollars in public funds. Our ideas will shape the improvements
we see in our schools, libraries, parks, and neighborhoods.
Over 3,000
District 38 residents cast their ballots in our inaugural year of Participatory
Budgeting, setting a new citywide record for the highest voter turnout.
Residents developed capital budget proposals that included new NYPD security
cameras, street resurfacing for our roadways, a new community garden for the Red
Hook Library, and technology and auditorium upgrades for many local
schools.
This year, I plan to greatly expand the role of Participatory
Budgeting in my office. I want to grow community engagement beyond the capital
budget to include a much broader range of policy decisions, and I hope you will
join me on Monday evening to learn more.
