Dear Friends,
HAPPY NEW YEAR: #IDNYC Officially Launched This
Week!
With the New Year now in full stride, I am
once again honored and humbled to be representing this amazing community. In
just one year, the New York City Council in partnership with the Mayor and the
City Agencies, community groups, advocates, and concerned residents, stepped up
and created a program that will help stabilize the lives of hundreds of
thousands of New .
One of my favorite things about District 38 is
the commitment of residents and organizations to a shared vision: we deserve
better. That united voice makes my work in the NYC Council easier because it
offers me a strong launching point in conversations with our partners in
government. Whether it’s our parks and open spaces, our local schools, or even
informing how we activate our industrial working waterfront, all of our
aspirations should include one thing: your voice. That’s what I am advocating
for each and every day.
In the spirit of growing our collective voice, I
invite you to join these events and activate yourself as a proud New Yorker. I
am also offering ways to get involved with the Participatory Budgeting process,
which determines the projects you want to see funded in the forthcoming
year.
Thank you once again for your commitment to this district.
In Solidarity, Carlos

Sunset Park Shovel Brigade: A Volunteer Facebook
Group
The Sunset Park Shovel Brigade is here to
help dig out anyone needing assistance during the winter months.
We are looking for able bodied
individuals to sign up and volunteer to help shovel out our neighbors who may
need some assistance. Here's how it will
work:
"Whenever significant amounts of snow are in the forecast I will
post the list of addresses. Volunteers can then post the address they will be
responsible for in the comments. If all goes well we will be able to knock them
all out in no time at all. Volunteers should feel free to team up as well to
lighten the load. If you need assistance digging out send me your address and I
will add you to the list." - Pete
Connolly, Sunset Park Resident and
Facebook Group Administrator

Assistance | | | | | | | IDNYC is the new, free identification card for all New York City residents,
which gives all of us the opportunity to show who we are—New Yorkers. As a
government-issued photo identification card, IDNYC secures the peace of mind and
access to City services that come from having recognized identification. IDNYC
benefits every city resident, including the most vulnerable communities—the
homeless, youth, the elderly, undocumented immigrants, the formerly incarcerated
and others who may have difficulty obtaining other government-issued ID.

Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia announced that the DSNY will begin its
annual Christmas tree curbside collection and recycling program on Monday,
January 5. The program will run through Friday, January 16, 2015.
City
residents should remove all tree stands, tinsel, lights, and ornaments from
trees before they are put out at for curbside collection. Clean, non-bagged
Christmas trees that are left on the curb between Monday, January 5 and Friday,

will be processed and subsequently spread upon parks, ball fields, and community
gardens throughout the city
ONE NIGHT. 3,000 NEW YORKERS. LET'S MAKE IT COUNT.
ONE NIGHT...On January 26, 2015, the NYC Department of Homeless Services will conduct its annual Homeless Outreach Population Estimate (HOPE). We need thousands of volunteers to canvass parks, subways, and other public spaces to estimate the number of people living unsheltered in the city. Just one night of your time will help us collect vital information for outreach teams to help homeless people leave the streets for a better life. 3,000 NEW YORKERS NEEDED…The information volunteers gather during HOPE 2014 is critical to our ongoing efforts, but we need your help to make it possible. We need more than 3,000 volunteers, age 18 or older, to give just one night of their time to help survey the number of New Yorkers living on city streets. We will provide you with all the training necessary to conduct the survey on the night of HOPE plus a quick, basic online orientation when you register.
The
in-building service provided by e-cycleNYC represents the most comprehensive
electronics recycling program offered by any municipality in the country.
Depending
on the size and type of building, NYC apartment buildings (larger than 10
units) will be eligible for a variety on-site service options to conveniently
and safely recycle unwanted electronics.
Buildings,
management companies, or residents that want to express interest in e-cycleNYC
can complete an online inquiry form.
