Parents!

John J. Pershing I.S. 220 has purchased series of parent workshops from CITE.  These workshops will be held monthly in English, Spanish and Chinese languages.  First one took place on December 9th, Topic: “Common Core Standards -what every parent should know”

The next one will take place on January 22, and will be on the “Changes to the State Tests”. In addition to CITE workshops we will still provide workshops during monthly Parent Association meetings. These will be facilitated by our own teachers. El taller para los padres  家長講座

Learning Environment Surveys

In February, the New York City Department of Education will give the annual Learning Environment Survey to every parent, teacher, and 6-12th grade student citywide. This is an exciting opportunity for the people who know their schools best to tell us what they think.
The voices of parents, students, and teachers count in two important ways. Survey results are reported to school communities and the public through Survey Reports. Survey results also count for 10% of schools’ yearly Progress Report grades.

To find out more information about last year’s Learning Environment Survey please look at IS 220 page @

 http://schools.nyc.gov/OA/SchoolReports/2012-13/Survey_2013_K220.pdf

Please be on a lookout for GREEN survey envelope that will be distributed during Parent-Teacher Conferences in February.

Parents! Remember, students are required to read for 35 minutes every day, and complete 10 reading response logs according to the teacher’s directions. That is part of their homework assignment.
