Model UN - after school program for 7 & 8 Grade students

posted Oct 27, 2014, 8:07 AM by Sylwia Jasinski

Dear Parent/Guardian:

I am excited to announce a new afterschool academic program at John J. Pershing called Model United Nations. Model UN is a simulation of the UN General Assembly where students have the opportunity to step into the shoes of ambassadors from UN member states to debate current international issues.

Participation in Model UN promotes students’ interests in the world around them and broadens their knowledge in a variety of subjects. Students will gain vital skills in problem solving, public speaking, internet research, writing and communication. They will also have the chance to meet and interact with students from other citywide Model UN programs during the program conference March 26-28th, at the UN building in New York City.

The program is open to interested 7th and 8th grade students. Meeting time is scheduled for Wednesdays, from 2:25 pm to 3:35 pm, beginning on Nov.12, 2014.  Participants will be expected to attend meetings regularly and be committed to working in a team environment.

Thank you! I look forward to working with your child.

Sincerely,

Ms. Rossnagel/Social Studies
